Article created on: October 22nd, 2010 - Latest update: March 13th, 2012

We finally reached the full mobile era, where computers are barely needed with today’s smartphone invasion. You can sit on your local coffee shop and pull up documents and presentations, edit spreadsheets , video-talk to friends and clients and even organize your finances from those tiny little machines.

So, according to Gartner (NewsAlert), Inc., the worldwide mobile voice and data revenue will exceed one trillion dollars a year by 2014, what are you waiting to create a mobile version of your site/blog? You have to enter the mobile scene, but always try to keep some rules in mind:

  1. mobile networks are slower than the ones you have at home, so try to reduce your content (specially images);
  2. keep your contact infos and address in the front page towards the center;
  3. if possible, do not only “reskin” your website, try to rebuild it for mobile.

Many companies offer specialized services or plugins to migrate your current website into a mobile version and we will list 10 of those options. Feel free to comment and add some others you might know.

    I’ve tried a few of the above products, but I’ve found that many of them are difficult to use.

    I started using http://kishkee.com for a mobile site for my restaurant. The drag and drop interface I think is far superior than the others. Also, they have a free plan, which you cant beat.

    1. Aaron says:

      Go Susan! I love Kishkee. I started with them recently and I haven’t looked back. I have the Spotted Shorthorn plan (love the names) and I couldn’t be happier.

    I am a hoster, and met this team UNITY Mobile at a conference last month. While I am using their services for hosters to provide mobile to customers, I am quite impressed with their platform which allows you to build a mobile website, app, and use SMS/2D barcodes. I am pretty sure do-it-yourselfers can use it too. http://www.unitymobile.com

    Another great mobile site builder platform is GoMo.io — they’re more similar to mofuse.com and other mobile website builder CMS’s

    Mobify and bmobililzed are different breeds of mobile site builder, they basically take your desktop stylesheet from desktop sites and shrink them and strip heavy media etc.

    try gomo.io

  24. mob.is.it says:

    Sorry, but these tools are all quite crappy. Nobody understood that a mobile site is something *different* than a smaller version of a desktop site.

    Guys, if you really want to have your mobile website there is only one tool to use: http://mob.is.it

    The rest is the past.

  25. TheExpert3333 says:

    YouMinds WebApp Composer http://www.webapp.composer.youminds.com/ is free and easy to use desktop tool to create a mobile website in minutes and even with PHP or Perl support.

    I use it, I love it and I don’t pay any monthly fees.

    There are many listed but of them, MoFuse is the easiest platform to use. I’ve been a partner of their’s for awhile and the platform is easy, their rates are fair and the support is great.

    I haven’t used any of the other services and don’t think I ever will.

  31. [...] found this great top ten list but and added Dudamobile since it offers free and paid options to convert your existing site to [...]

  32. Some of these providers will be ideal for what I’m looking for, but their prices vary greatly. There’s a lot to do when analyzing value for money and suitability.

  33. I’ll toss my hat into the ring and attempt to assist this question as well. Obviously it’s all about experience, flexibility of UI, and personal opinion — but IMO the best tool out there that I’ve found is called Qfuse – and it’s mobile website builder/CMS AND also a QR Code generator which links to the mobile website you create.

    The platform also serves to provide analytics around number of times the site is viewed and the QR code scanned. A pretty cool service overall — especially since it’s FREE. Check it out at http://www.qfuse.com.

    Oh – and they also have a pretty cool cartoon video on the homepage showing how the site works. My $0.02.

    Can I suggest Microsite Builder, a mobile web page builder. For more info see http://micrositebuilder.tk

  37. John says:

    Thanks, this is a great list. We’ve used a few different tools in the past to help us with mobile websites. A newer one that has probably been the easiest overall has been http://www.SproutMobi.com. Clean and quick and really easy to create sites. We tried MobiSiteGalore but weren’t as impressed.

  38. For an icon based rather than line based option, try ours http://www.yomobi.com . Icons are more familiar and easy to tap an go. I agree with one of the comments that a mobile site should not be another version of desktop site. It needs to be action-ready for the on the go user and tapping an icon to call or get organized info or maps a business is key. Our model is currently Free (with ads) and in about a month, a $5/month custom plan will be available that includes more customizing options and no ads. Happy Building!
